RECOMMENDATION

title

Staff and the Utilities Commission recommend that the City Council approve the Utilities Commission FY 2024-2026 Work Plan.

body

BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS

The City Council established the Utilities Commission in 1991. Per Council Policy 100-22, each Commission must submit to the City Council a work plan indicating specific projects and tasks proposed for each two-year period to support the purpose and scope of responsibilities of the Commission.

Members of the Utilities Commission are strong advocates of water conservation, and over the years, have campaigned for ultra-low-flow toilets, low-flow showerheads, hot water recirculation devices, and storm water quality issues. They also review and make recommendations on water, wastewater, and solid waste items, including the annual budget.

The FY 2024-2026 Utilities Commission Work Plan delineates the Commission’s mission to consider and make recommendations to the City Council on initiatives pertaining to water usage, sea level rise for utility planning purposes, and the City Council’s goal to provide 50 percent local water supplies by 2030.

The Utilities Commission, at its November 12, 2024 meeting, discussed and revised the Work Plan with staff and approved the FY 2024-2026 plan provided as Attachment A.
