Request by Councilmember Joyce and Mayor Sanchez to direct staff to develop a plan to designate Oceanside's Eastside neighborhood as the Historical Eastside Cultural District. The goals of this designation would include enabling community control over new art in the park and surrounding places, establishing a funding stream to create historical landmark plaques, support the maintenance of cultural art, and integrate historical preservation of historic residential structures and with all new projects in the district. Lastly, it would support Latino-owned businesses currently existing in the district and potentially expand opportunity for culturally affirming business opportunities.
